Then one day, I started to feel well again. I was able to cope with my despair bit by bit, and then I could get up and begin to heal. The “vitamins” my husband had been giving me turned out to be CBD gummies. They gave me the strength to face my reality instead of masking my pain. Antidepressants fogged my brain, but CBD gave me clarity in thought to begin by journey to self-care.

As a nurse, anesthetist, and student of Western medicine, I was initially taught to be skeptical of CBD. But my husband opened my eyes to this alternative therapy, and now I stand by the therapeutic value it offers.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the hundreds of cannabinoids, or cannabis compounds. Basically, it’s a substance found in the hemp and marijuana plants that interacts with our cannabinoid receptors.

So, why is this important? Cannabinoid receptors are part of our endocannabinoid system (ECS) and help regulate our mood, pain response, inflammation, appetite, and more. CBD promotes healthy responses to these areas, reducing stress, pain, inflammation, and more!

4 Common Misconceptions About CBD Explained…

If you’re new to this world and a bit hesitant, I understand—I was once in a similar mindset! While the evidence of CBD benefits is growing, there are still many misconceptions out there. Let’s clear up a few common myths.

Can CBD Get You High?

Nope! CBD is not the same as marijuana. The key here is understanding the difference between CBD vs. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the cannabinoid found in marijuana that produces its signature high.

Simply put, CBD does not have the same psychoactive effects as THC. However, CBD can improve your mood and mental state.

It also helps to clarify marijuana vs. hemp plants. Both are cannabis plants, but marijuana contains higher levels of THC, while legally grown hemp has 0.3% or less. That’s why legal CBD must come from hemp and contain 0.3% THC or less.

Bottom line: Because it either doesn’t contain THC (i.e., broad-spectrum) or contains only trace amounts (i.e., full-spectrum), CBD will not produce the high associated with marijuana. CBD alone will not cause a false positive drug test.

Does CBD Make You Tired?

Is CBD addictive? It’s fair to be concerned in this area when trying any new treatment. Fortunately, studies indicate that pure cannabidiol is not addictive. It’s believed this is because it does not have intoxicating effects, meaning you can enjoy CBD benefits without fear of dependency.

The World Health Organization stated in a 2017 Pre-Review Report that “evidence from well-controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential.” In fact, early research shows CBD may even help treat drug addiction.
